American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Initial Course. Upon completion of this PALS class the health care provider will be able to understand how to recognize and prevent the common causes of pediatric injuries and emergencies that require resuscitation. You’ll understand how to recognize respiratory failure, shock, and cardiac arrest. You will also learn when to initiate advanced resuscitation with airway and ventilation control, vascular access, fluid and medication therapy, and how to identify and treat rhythm disturbances.
Skills are taught in large-group sessions and small-group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.
Audience: Pediatricians, house staff, emergency physicians, family physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other health care providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children.
Course Prerequisites: A valid BLS Provider Card not expiring within 6 months of date of instruction. Basic ECG interpretation skills. Every student must be able to identify basic ECG rhythms as part of their course completion requirements. The CPR Hero Training Center offers the Basic ECG Course for students who wish to develop or strengthen their interpretation skills prior to attending PALS.
All students must have a current book – AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Manual (90-1052 – located on back of cover). This book is REQUIRED for the class. You can do one of the following:
